FARO Workshop on Applications of Ocean-Colour Radiometry to the Study of Marine Ecosystem, including Fisheries
The objectives of the workshop are: to enhance awareness in the Pacific Region of the value of ocean-colour radiometry in studies of the marine ecosystem, including fisheries; to inform interested parties how they might acquire such data and how they might use them; to convene a group of scientists with common interests for mutual exchange of information; to highlight relevant work already underway on the West coast; and to show some relevant results from the East coast.
The format will be a mixture of seminars, demonstrations, contributed talks, posters and general discussion. The material covered will include relevant data sources, limitations of the data, use of the data to construct indicators of the pelagic ecosystem, applications to research on larval recruitment and interannual variability. Examples of case studies will be presented. The complementarity of continuously recorded plankton data will also be discussed.
The workshop should be informative for fisheries scientists with no working knowledge of remote sensing, and fishery managers who would like to incorporate more information about the ecosystem in their management protocols for exploited stocks. It should also be of general interest to those working with the ocean ecosystem.
